To meet the long-term electricity demands for Yangon Region, projects will be implemented to generate electricity from waste-derived fuel, according to the Ministry of Electric Power.
To ensure a sustainable electricity supply for the country, various energy sources are being utilized for power generation. The Yangon Region’s waste-to-energy initiatives are being prioritized as part of this strategy.
“To meet long-term electricity needs, we are focusing on generating power from multiple energy sources. This includes electricity production from waste-derived fuel in Yangon, as well as renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. We will also be developing projects to ensure a balanced energy mix by tapping into other available energy sources,” said an official from the Ministry of Electric Power.
Currently, the country’s electricity production is supplied by hydropower plants, solar power plants, natural gas-fired power plants, and coal-fired power plants, with a combined total output of approximately 2,500 megawatts, according to the ministry. — ASH/KNN
